Eternal Kiss of Darkness - Review

An immortal war has been brewing in the darkness…and now one woman has stumbled into the shadows. Chicago private investigator Kira Graceling should have just kept on walking. But her sense of duty refused to let her ignore the moans of pain coming from inside a warehouse just before dawn. Suddenly she finds herself in a world she’s only imagined in her worst nightmares. At the center is Mencheres, a breathtaking Master Vampire who thought he’d seen it all. Then Kira appears—this fearless, beautiful…human who braved death to rescue him. Though he burns for her, keeping Kira in his world means risking her life, yet sending her away is unthinkable. But with danger closing in, Mencheres must choose between the woman he craves, or embracing the darkest magic to defeat an enemy bent on his eternal destruction

**Summary taken from Goodreads**

Going into Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost i was a little apprehensive, having not loved the first book in the Night Huntress World 'First Drop of Crimson' as much as i wanted to,  i was sure EKOD would be the same. I am happy to say it was not! I loved it.
The books begins with Mencheres, an over 4 thousand year old master vampire being beaten by ghouls, Kira an independent PI happens upon this and saves the vampire, not able to wipe her memories of him he takes her hostage until such time he can wipe her mind clear of all she had seen of his world, and thus began the building of the sweet romantic chemistry i found between them.
I liked Kira, she was  a more realistic heroine, after Denise is FDOC (sorry girl i just didn't feel it for you at all)  again i was sceptical but for a few little quirks i actually enjoyed reading about Kira, she had the chemistry with Mencheres i was looking for, she was strong and witty and she wasn't afraid to fight for her man and to actually tell him what to do when he thought he knew best. Things happen to drastically change Kira's life and i thought the progression of it was real and true making me like her even more.

How can you not like an ancient vampire who relaxes by laying at the bottom of a pool, especially when he emerges from said pool nekkid *cough* how can you not like him when he gives a girl amazing ceiling sex. yes. sex on the ceiling! GULP! oh Jeaniene Frost after ch 32 i didn't think i could love you even more. But i do!

I loved the baddie element in EKOD, Radje had the quality of a baddie you could boo and hiss at, he added to the inner turmoil Mencheres was feeling about his imminent death.

Can you say Bones! Cat! and Vlad! they all made an appearance, the blurb alone for "This side of the Grave" (the title from inside the book was changed)  featured in the back of the book was enough to send my mind into a tailspin of squee and excitement. I miss Bones!
Ohh and Vlad, how i love him! i hope he has a book soon. SOON!!

If you adore Jeaniene Frost books, EKOD will not disappoint you. The story is steady paced, the character development a treat to read and you will leave the book loving Mencheres and Kira, and did i mention ceiling sexy time?! Frost gives you everything you want from a Night Huntress series book, i went into reading it with scepticism and finished with a smiley sigh! I loved it!
Best quote:
Kira knew that his tongue felt like a vibrator set to the speed of Oh Hell Yeah
Holy DANG!!

A wonderful engaging read i give Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost 4.5 Sparkles out of 5!

Comfort Food - Review

Emily Vargas has been taken captive. As part of his conditioning methods, her captor refuses to speak to her, knowing how much she craves human contact. He's far too beautiful to be a monster. Combined with his lack of violence toward her, this has her walking a fine line at the edge of sanity. Told in the first person from Emily's perspective, Comfort Food explores what happens when all expectations of pleasure and pain are turned upside down, as whips become comfort and chicken soup becomes punishment
**Summary taken from Goodreads**
Disclaimer: Provided by Author for an honest review.

Twenty four hours after reading this book i'm still thinking about it, and still all i want to write is 'wow' Comfort  Food by Kitty Thomas i can honestly say is a book that messed with my mind and dragged me into the story taking me through every emotion and yet i just want to say wow. wow.

This in no way an erotic romance story, there is no hearts or flowers, no moonlit walks, no whispered sweet nothings or even dirty talk. it is dark, disturbing, gritty, agony to read at times. But it is compelling and just as Emily was, i was thrust into the world of master and slave, the words coming alive from the page, i wanted to know more about Master and Emily, i was enthralled to read and read.

Emily with her major in Psychology knows all about the stockholm syndrome but her fear and need for any kind of human contact drives her on each day, her inner dialogue is fantastic in portraying her emotions, her need her agony her ability to reason for her survival.

There is very little dialogue from Emily, mostly it is her inner thoughts, all sex scenes told in the third party, and you get little to no dialogue point of view from Master yet everything he is the author conveys with a look to his eyes, a movement of his body, he doesn't show anger, he doesn't get violent but you feel the threat from him at every moment. he is disciplined in controlling Emily he knows she will do most anything for a moment of companionship, he knows when to punish when to reward, everything is a choice, she chooses wrong and Emily is back in what she calls the bad cell instead of the plush bedroom filled with all her favourite things.
It was actually surprising that i could feel anything for Master in the form of compassion, but i did. Two thirds in events take a different slant and you begin to understand him, you see why this man who is beautiful and strong and by societies standards a male women would throw themselves at, did the things he did. There is no sob back-story from him, what he does when he captures Emily is truly calculated, dark and evil. But yet i didn't feel hate for this character, i was engaged with him as much as i was with Emily.

This is a beautifully written story, the author paints vivid images that stays with you, from the chicken noodle soup, to Emily getting her period, to the erotic sex scenes, to the despair emptiness inside Emily. The relationship between Master and Emily pushed all boundaries for them both, i cheered Emily, i was anxious for her and felt happy as her strength and courage fought through.
I went into this book thinking how could there be a happily ever after, and in the traditional sense no this book doesn't give you that, it showcases a relationship between Master and Slave, about pushing boundaries to the their limits to free inner desires.
Some Quotes i loved:

He'd studied me, stalked me, knew everything about me. Human contact, speech, words, music. I needed stimulation. And he wasn't giving any of it to me. I was pretty sure he was trying to break me, and considering my lack of escape options, I was pretty sure he was going to succeed.

It was a mad and unyielding obsession, and it was mutual. And the flames from it would likely kill one of us some day. Probably me. I couldn't bring myself to care. I'd rather have this intensity with him than a hundred years of mediocrity with another.

His touch was like heroin in my veins, and I was a grateful addict.

I know I need him. And I hope he needs me. What we have is fucked up and twisted, but it serves a need. I know I've always been wired differently. He only brought to the surface what was already there

I can't convey loudly enough just how brilliant this book is, it's not for the faint hearted, it's not for someone who likes a little bondage play in their stories, what you do get is an exceptionally written take of a master conditioning his slave and ultimately giving her what she never knew she wanted. It's a dark erotica and truly Kitty Thomas pushes at your thoughts and emotions with every turn of the page. I rarely give any book full marks, unless they touch me in a way that stays with me long after i've put the book down, if the characters and actions are still with me the following day then top marks has to be given.

A compelling read that will stay with me forever, i give Comfort Food by Kitty Thomas 5 Sparkles out of 5!

Petals and Thorns - Review

In exchange for her father’s life, Amarantha agrees to marry the dreadful Beast and be his wife for seven days. Though the Beast cannot take Amarantha’s virginity unless she begs him to, he can and does take her in every other way. From the moment they are alone together, the Beast relentlessly strips Amarantha of all her resistance. If Amarantha can resist her cloaked and terrifying husband, she gains his entire fortune and will be allowed to return to her family and a normal life. But the Beast seduces her at every turn, exposing, binding, tormenting, and pleasuring Amarantha until she no longer knows her own deepest desires.Increasingly desperate to break the curse that chains his humanity, the Beast drives Amarantha past every boundary. But her desire for a normal life may jeopardize the love that will save them both.

Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play, BDSM theme and elements, dubious consent
**Summary taken from Goodreads**
Disclaimer: ARC copy provided by author for an honest review.

Petals and Thorns by Jennifer Paris gives an erotic spin to the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast. All Amarantha has to do to claim the Beasts wealth for her family is to resist his charms for a week and not give her virginity. Although the Beast wont forcibly take her virginity he does dominate her in every other way possible to try to change her mind and beg him.
I was intrigued by this man right away, he is cloaked throughout most of the book, we see his hand which has fur and claws that alone paints a hideous picture of his face he never shows but he is endearing and charming and romantic in his domineering way. He makes sure Amarantha is taken care of.
The majority of the book is the beast making her submissive to him and his needs, him raining down pleasure on her trying to break her will to him. I really liked these two characters together, they each filled a need in the other and while the outcome wasn't a surprise i loved the chemistry, sensual heat and power struggle between them.
This was a great read, erotic, romantic, written well, i loved the dialogue and it had a steady pace. Despite the beast being hidden by his cloak most of the book i found him deliciously sexy, he was a contradiction to how you'd expect him to be and by the end of the book i was as eager to see his face as Amarantha was.
Some quotes i loved:

“My lord?” The Beast turned back to her. “Which part was play and which part my punishment?”
Her father had told her that any ninny could keep her legs closed for one week, and here she sat, legs impossibly spread, filled with restlessness and feeling oddly desperate to give a monster whatever he asked of her.

“Amarantha, my bride, will you beg me to collar you, chain you to my bed, and fuck you?”

A wonderful take on the fairytale i look forward to the next sexy story from the author.

I give Petals and Thorns by Jennifer Paris 4 Sparkles out of 5! a RAWR-ingly scrumptious read!

Infinity - Review

At fourteen, Nick Gautier thinks he knows everything about the world around him. Streetwise, tough and savvy, his quick sarcasm is the stuff of legends. . .until the night when his best friends try to kill him. Saved by a mysterious warrior who has more fighting skills than Chuck Norris, Nick is sucked into the realm of the Dark-Hunters: immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity. Nick quickly learns that the human world is only a veil for a much larger and more dangerous one: a world where the captain of the football team is a werewolf and the girl he has a crush on goes out at night to stake the undead. But before he can even learn the rules of this new world, his fellow students are turning into flesh eating zombies. And he’s next on the menu. As if starting high school isn't hard enough. . .now Nick has to hide his new friends from his mom, his chainsaw from the principal, and keep the zombies and the demon Simi from eating his brains, all without getting grounded or suspended. How in the world is he supposed to do that?

**Summary taken from Goodreads**

If you don't know me you probably wont know i'm a die hard Dark-Hunter fanatic! (Acheron and Vane are my book boyfriends from back when) Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of the few Auto buy authors because basically she's made of pure sugar coated awesome. But when i heard Nick Gautier one of my favourite Dark Hunter characters was getting his own series but in the YA genre i cringed. Whilst i love reading YA, i wasn't sure if the cross over would work.
If i was BFFs with SK i'd fall to my feets and beg forgiveness for doubting! I was as enthralled by Infinity Book One from The Chronicles of Nick Series, as i have been by all of the Dark Hunter novels.  And it's as a Dark Hunter fan that i write this review because i feel if you haven't read the adult series you will miss out on all the connections in this YA book.
Fourteen year old Nick is just as sweet and charming as grown up Nick is/was in the Dark Hunter series. I found his sarcasm and wit to be hilarious and endearing. He's had a tough life, his mum who he loves very much and will do anything to protect and make happy, works as an exotic dancer to keep their heads above water, his dad is a demon (only the readers know this) and in jail for numerous murders and suddenly he meets a guy offering him a great job with no strings attached and is thrust into a world he never knew existed.

It was unusual for a YA book to have such a strong presence from a parent, Cherise who i loved in the adult series seems to be a little too overbearing with Nick in Infinity.

Some of the best points of the book is seeing the familiar characters...but younger. Tabitha is still as feisty as ever, love that goth girl!
Kyrian...oh Kyrian! one of the earlier Dark Hunter books id forgotten i used to crush on him. But it was two of my favourite old characters i squealed over most. Simi and Acheron. Ashy oh Ashy my number one book boyfriend and his demon daughter Simi, i loved her dialogue, she has the best one liners.

Sherrilyn Kenyon with Infinity gives you the best parts of the Dark Hunter series with the fantastic dialogue and introduces you to the young world of Nick Gautier before he became the man we know today. While i don't care for reading about zombies i found the story to move steadily, there was a few too many new characters for my liking but i know that's because i was hoping for more of the old ones..what can i say, i get my DH fix wherever i can but i do like Bubba, i hope he pops up in the next book.

There's a surprise midway through that i LOVED, i can see that will have major ripples along the whole series and i can't wait to see its conclusion.
For anyone wanting to read this book i'd say to read the dark hunter series first, you'll enjoy it far better if you actually know Simi, Tabitha, Acheron, you'll enjoy it more if you know the adult Nicky to properly understand the enormity of the surprise half way. It can be read without the Dark Hunter knowledge i just think you're missing out.
Book Two in The Chronicles of Nick is 'Invincible' and out in February '11. Can't wait!
A quote i loved:

He was Nick Gautier. A kid born standing up and talking back. No one ever got the better of him and he'd be damned if they were going to start now                              A thoroughly enjoyable read i give Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon 4.5 Sparkles out of 5!

Pack of Lies Review {{Blog Tour}}

When Jack is attacked by a powerful werewolf one moonlit night, his world is forever changed. Marcus is that wolf, the strong leader of his pack, who never imagined a mere mortal could ever escape him, much less ever become one of his kind. And yet, as time passes, he can't deny the handsome human is slowly beginning to change. No longer the civilized architect he used to be, Jack feels a new power coalescing inside of him. He barely even recognizes himself as he becomes more sexual, more impulsive, more wild in every way. But as the bite transforms him, it also binds he and his attacker together forever. The two share a powerful unbreakable link, no matter how forcefully they may each try to deny it. Marcus is already hiding secrets from the other wolves, and his position as Alpha is threatened. Could Jack be the new ally Marcus needs to set things right, or will their desire for one another draw them away from all they know and alter the course of their lives forever?

**Summary taken from Goodreads**
Disclaimer: Provided by Author for an honest review

Whatever you have read about werewolves, Pack of Lies by Vanessa Vaughn turns it on its head and gives you a raw gritty sensual read. I was excited when i was offered the chance to review this book, especially since it is a male male lead told in the first person with Marcus and Jack  taking a chapter each.

Wow, i was blown away at many points of the story, Marcus is Alpha of his wolf pack, but he can't tell them he lusts for men as well as women, his leadership is on shaky ground and whilst in wolf form he attacks Jack and his friend Ivy. Instantly he has a bond with Jack, sharing vivid sexually hot dreams together, forbidden in a pack where you're expected to take a female mate Marcus struggles with wanting Jack and keeping it a secret, fearing he may have to kill him if he doesn't turn Wolf at the full moon. The only irritating aspect to Marcus i had was i wished he'd been more active in his Alpha role of the pack, i understood why he couldn't but i felt a leader leads whatever the rules of past Alpha's, if he wanted to get rough and tumble with another male he should have done it and not been afraid of the opinions of the other wolves.

Jack coping with discovering werewolves actually exist and knowing he is becoming one, dealing with his growing power and  sexual hunger and blood thirst i found enthralling. This is no fairytale werewolf story, it's written so descriptive that it's easy to envision as both men struggle with the fall out.

At the beginning of the book when i knew Jack was straight i had wondered how suddenly he would be with a man , i suspected it would be forced and read fake, how wrong could i be. I felt empathy for him as he tried to make sense of the attraction and deep connection to the man who had attacked him so when the sexy time did finally happen it felt right and sweet holy hannah was it steamy! Two Alpha males both wanting the dominance over the other, it was rough, raw, sexy as hell claws and all!

While it is a M/M erotic romance it does feature both men having sex with women at a few points so it pleases everyone who is a little vanilla with their erotica.
For a different slant on paranormal wolves Pack of Lies is beautifully written, you can't go wrong in choosing this for a hot sizzling sexy summer read packed full of secrets, lust, violence, dominance and a little crazy tossed in for good measure! And it's MANLOVE! (with cuffs!!)  nOM!
I really hope it's made into a series, i'd love to see Marcus and Jack again.
Some quotes i swooned at:

This handsome man was like a shell tumbling in the surf. Each time I reached for him, the tide would pull him just out of my grasp and I was left only with a disintegrating handful of water and sand. The effect was maddening. Having Jack always just beyond my hold was turning him into an obsession.  - marcus

We were sharing thoughts, dark sensual flashes, just as surely as we had shared that dream. This man belonged to me, and I to him. I wanted him more than anything I’d ever wanted in the world ---Jack

I wanted to give in to my animal side. I wanted sex, and I wanted it rough. I wanted to fight and force one of us to assert absolute dominance. - Jack

Red Hot Fury - Review

Hell hath nothing worse than a Fury scorned... As a Fury, Marissa Holloway belongs to an Arcane race that has avenged wrongdoing since time immemorial. As Boston’s Chief Magical Investigator for the past five years, she’s doing what she was born to: solving supernatural crimes. It’s far from business as usual when the body of one of Riss’s sister Furies washes up in Boston harbor. Riss discovers that the corpse’s identity has been magically altered, but as soon as she reports her findings, she’s immediately—and inexplicably—suspended from the her job. Then a human assassin makes an attempt on her life, and Riss starts to realize that someone may be trying to stir up strife between mortals and Arcanes. When a Fury gets mad, she gets even, and Riss is determined to untangle this case. Without the support of the mortal PD, Riss turns to the one man she can trust to watch her back—shapeshifting Warhound Scott Murphy. But since Scott is also Riss’s ex, she’ll have to keep a tight leash on more than just the supernatural rage that feeds her power as they try to solve a murder—and stop a war…
**Summary taken from Goodreads**
Red Hot Fury
is the debut Urban Fantasy Novel from Kasey Mackenzie. it explodes the paranormal world apart and there's not a vampire in sight! I can't say better than the summary up there so i will jump right in with my thoughts on the book. (Don't you just LOVE the cover? it's so fierce!)

There is a lot going on in Red Hot Fury, it jumps right into the story straight away, always a good sign when an author doesn't drag it out for longer than necessary. Riss being a Fury and an Arcane investigator is pretty much as you'd expect a heroine to be, kickass, a little overly confident and sure of herself, bit cocky, bit sarcastic but Riss also has a heart, she cares a lot, about the people in her lie, about her ex boyfriend, about her case and job and she's beyond determined not to let any obstacles get in her way of solving the cloning/missing people crime, she has her vulnerable moments of which she doubts herself, i liked that aspect, that the author humanised her
So that's some of her good points, some negatives were i found her to be lacking somewhat as a heroine, she would always just barely scrape through each battle, she seemed forever to be two steps behind everyone, i lost count of the times a chapter ended with Riss unconscious.

I can see this will be a series with the heroine growing each book, learning from all her mistakes. I like the paranormal world the author has created, learning more about Furies, Harpies, and Warhounds, i hope in book two it's explored more. As with any first book in a new series it was overly packed of worldly knowledge, i got lost a few times, especially with the introduction of what felt like a cast of a thousand and it seemed every other chapter had a 'AHA' moment happening.

Overall I enjoyed this read, Riss despite the few flaws that irked me i warmed to her, i wished there had been a bit more romance with Scott, i didn't feel their connection much, the sexy time was pretty hot though!
For fans of Paranormal and Urban Fantasy this is a start to a really good series delving into a world we don't see often. Book two is Green with Envy, i can't wait to read it.

I give Red Hot Fury by Kasey Mackenzie 3.5 Sparkles out of 5!

Twice Bitten - Review

Merit, Chicago’s newest vampire, is learning how to play well with others. Other supernaturals, that is. Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master Vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit. Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene—and to spy for the vamps while she’s at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan’s offering some steamy, one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission. Merit must accept the assignment, even though she knows that she’ll probably regret it. And she’s not wrong. Someone is gunning for Gabriel Keene, and Merit soon finds herself in the line of fire. She’ll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals—not least between her and a certain green-eyed, centuries old master vampire.

**Summary taken from Goodreads**

Twice Bitten by Chloe Neill is the third instalment in the Chicagoland Vampires series. To read my review for books one and two go HERE
It sees Merit play bodyguard to Gabriel a shapeshifter. Unlike Vampires, Shifters are still in the closet with the world, on the cusp on a war Merit and Cadogan House Master Vampire Ethan have to try and persuade the shifters to stay and fight alongside the vamps, something they've never done before, or will the shifters pack up their chew toys and head back to the mother land of Alaska and let the vampires fight alone?
Some Shifters are all for letting the vampires get on with it alone, and when a professional hit happens Merit and Ethan have to work to find out who it is, and protect Gabriel and co....along with a few other interesting things along the way.

I loved this book! I find Chloe Neill to be so evil in building the tension between Ethan and Merit over the three books, and in Twice Bitten it's just as addicting to read, will they...wont they....Argh i was hooked! Sometimes Ethan is a real ass and i'd happily smack him (quickly followed by much lovens and comfort...for i loves him!) so i was chewing my lip hoping his sweet charming self wouldn't put a foot wrong and say something to ruin the mood with Merit. I adored when he let his mask fall for a moment and let her see the man behind the master vampire, see not just the suave altogether Alpha male everyone knows him as, he showed her he could actually need someone and i loved that the author gave us another dimension to him. (FYI author, i wouldn't mind more skin time with Ethan either, maybe him just in low slung trousers, jeans, trackie bottoms...etc kthnx!

I grew to like Merit more in this book, she was more confident but not at all cocky, she's never afraid to show her vulnerable side as she does with her still being on the outs with best friend Mallory, she may be an uber vampire now but she's still just a girl who misses her friend but when she's kick ass she is KICKASS! a heroine to really like and admire and unlike some heroines she doesn't let Ethan walk all over her or make her submissive to his hierarchy.

Many events happen, if you think book three is going to be all sweetness and roses, think again, just like the previous two Neill is good at giving with one hand and taking away with the other, it had me all angst ridden as i read, will they....wont they...will they...wont they...if i could have turned the pages as fast as Johnny 5 from Shirt Circuit (If you weren't around in the 80's you must google him) i would have! i just wanted to gulp down the story and find out what happened.
As light relief there is page time for some regulars, Catcher, Mallory, Luc and i love the Psychic vampire Lindsey, she's a hoot! (FYI author, if you wanted to give more skin time to Catcher too i wouldn't object. Just sayin')

Whether you're team Ethan (*pumps fist*) Catcher, Luc or Morgan you WILL like the development between Master Vampire and his Sentinel. One of the things i love most about the authors writing is how she develops the characters and the dialogue i adore, it can go from witty banter to down right heart string tugs.
Fans of the Chiagoland Vampires series will love this latest instalment and know it is truly an Ethan and Merit book. I can't wait until the next book HARD BITTEN due for release July '11 (yee gods the wait will kill me!) Being Urban Fantasy i will say Twice Bitten doesn't in any way give you a happily ever after for our favourite characters, but it gives you a slice of something delicious with the promise of more to come.
A quote i perhaps swooned at:
"You undo me, Merit. Wholly and completely. You don't take me at my word. You challenge me at every opportunity. And that means when I'm with you, I am less than the head of this House...and I am more than the head of this House. I am a man." He stroked my cheeks with his thumbs. "In my very, very long life, I need you more than I have ever needed anything."

A wonderful engaging sexy page turner, i give Twice Bitten by Chloe Neill 4 Sparkles out of 5!
