Georgina Kincaid's job sucks. Literally. Love hurts, and no one knows it better than Georgina Kincaid. If she so much as kisses her new boyfriend, she’ll drain his life force. Georgina is a succubus—a demon who draws her power from other men’s pleasure. Admittedly, the shapeshifting and immortality perks are terrific, and yes, Georgina did choose to join the ranks of hell centuries ago. But it seems completely unfair that a she-demon whose purpose is seduction can’t get hot and heavy with the one mortal who knows and accepts her for who she is.It’s not just her personal life that’s in chaos. Doug, Georgina’s co-worker at a local bookstore, has been exhibiting bizarre behavior, and Georgina suspects that something far more demonic than double espressos is at work. She could use help finding out, but Bastien, an irresistibly charming incubus and her best immortal friend, is preoccupied in the suburbs with corrupting an ultra-conservative talk radio star—and giving Georgina some highly distracting come-hither vibes. Georgina is going to have to work solo on this one—and fast because soon, Doug’s life won’t be the only one on the line…
**Summary taken from Author Website**
I struggled with this book, surprising since i loved book one Succubus Blues in the Georgina Kincaid Series. Succubus Nights (aka: Succubus on Top) by Richelle Mead still has the fun humorous essence of Georgina, she's now dating author Seth but can't get hip bumpage with him or she will drain his life force and although we see alot of them together it feels like nothing progresses much, i liked Seth's sweet gentle nature, a sexy nerd, he's no alpha, but at times he just seemed nonchalant, i wanted to see fire or passion from him, and he was just a little lacking, he still remains my favourite male character though, there's just an endearing quality about him that you have to like.
There wasn't much page time for Georgina's friends in this book, i was hoping to find out more about Carter or even the demon world they all existed in but we didn't get that.
In Succubus Nights two story lines coincide, one is the mystery of the strange behaviour of Georgina's co-worker and human friend Doug, the other is to help her fellow incubus friend Bastien to entrap a snooty woman to bed him, lose her goodie goodie reputation thus giving him a pat on his demon back and getting him out of a shit load of trouble. Bastien was interesting,(and very growl worthy delicious!) there was a scene between him and Georgie that left me a little disappointed with her, yes she's a Succubus, her job is to bed men for the greater evil, take their life force, but she's also a woman with morals, she cares about people and she loves Seth, i guess i wanted the hearts and flowers and she just showed a human aspect to her character for a moment.
The positives about this book is the style of writing, Mead lets you see good and evil aren't always polar opposites, sometimes the line is blurred. I see alot of potential for these characters and although i wasn't as jazzed for this book as i was the first i am looking forward to diving into book three Succubus Dreams.
Another positive is, in her world revolving around sex it's sweet to see Georgina actually maintain and work on a celibate relationship, her love for Seth is very much apparent, so i am hoping in some way in future books her and Seth are able to be together in all the ways they want to be.
A likeable read but not overly thrilling I give Succubus Nights by Richelle Mead 2.5 Sparkles out of 5.
