Chicagoland Vampires Books One && Two - Review

They killed me. They healed me. They changed me...Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn't exactly glamorous, but it was mine. I was doing fine until Chicago's vampires announced their existence to the world-and then a rogue vampire attacked me. But he only got a sip before he was scared away by another bloodsucker ... and this one decided the best way to save my life was to make me the walking undead.Turns out my savior was the master vampire of Cadogan House. Now I've traded sweating over my thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan "Lord o' the Manor" Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed, four hundred year old vampire, he has centuries' worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects my gratitude-and servitude. Right...But my burgeoning powers (all of a sudden, I'm surprisingly handy with some serious weaponry), an inconvenient sunlight allergy, and Ethan's attitude are the least of my concerns. Someone's still out to get me. Is it the rogue vampire who bit me? A vamp from a rival House? An angry mob bearing torches? My initiation into Chicago's nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war-and there will be blood...

Where has this book been all my life?!  Thanks to Bells over at Hanging with Bells for putting both book and author on my radar.(I love Twitter for book recs
Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill is written in the first person, not always my preferred POV but for Merit's story it fits well and is easily read.  After a brutal attack, Merit is turned vampire to save her life and thrust into a whole new world, having to follow rules, pledge an allegiance to a House and Master vampire when all she wants to do is continue her old life.

I love this book! Merit is a great character, very engaging to read, to follow her journey into being a vampire, her highs and lows, her struggles. This isn't a typical vampire book when girl becomes vamp and the king pin Master vampire fall in love. Within a few days Merit is inadvertently challenging Ethan to a smack down.

What i love about Merit is she doesn't suddenly become this super vampire who can kick arse and is ruling the roost in under five minutes, that big headed complex always turns me off a lead heroine. Merit is just a normal regular girl, she's funny as hell. For book one it isn't overly packed with all the info you're going to need throughout the series, you know the books i mean, they give you a million names, six million back stories and you just get lost in information. This isn't one of those books. (woot) It has a nice steady pace, an engaging story and a handful of characters you will love getting to know.

I particularly liked best friend Mallory, the banter and quick wit between the friends is very humorous and the girls have a real closeness that comes right off the page.
After reading this book you'll have one question to ask yourself: Team Catcher, Team Morgan or Team Ethan? Wanna know which i am?
You gotta wait! Mwahaha.
I loved this book. LOVED!
I give Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill 4.5 Sparkles out of 5. A Nom-tastic read!

                            =====================================

The story of a young heiress's initiation into the dark society of the Chicagoland Vampires continues… Ten months after vampires revealed their existence to the mortals of Chicago, they're enjoying a celebrity status usually reserved for the Hollywood elite. But if people learn about the Raves-mass feeding parties where vampires round up humans like cattle—the citizens will start sharpening their stakes. So now it's up to the new vampire Merit to reconnect with her upper class family and act as liaison between humans and bloodsuckers, and keep the more unsavory aspects of the vampire lifestyle out of the media. But someone doesn't want peace between them—someone with an ancient grudge…

Book two in the Chicagoland Vampires series. Friday night Bites by Chloe Neill is another awesome read. Merit has some development in her new life as a vampire and Sentinal to Master Ethan, she's moved to Cadogan House, her once stable relationship with Mal is shook, she's training with Catcher, made to date Morgan master of another rival vampire house, has to mingle with the elite sector of her family again to solve a problem, has tension with old friends, sexual tension with her master, sexual tension with her faux boyfriend, and a big bad bitch out to ruin her. On top of all that Merit is worried about her vampire side in the fact that it's completely split from her human side.
I love that she isn't perfect, she has faults and flaws and fears (all the Fs lol ) she has some great inner dialogue going on, and i just love when her and Ethan are on the page together. Just when you think Awww Ethan likes her he slams down the shutters and vampire politics takes over, I can say i don't like how he uses Merit for House gain, C'mon dude, that isn't how you're going to win the girl!
I do like Morgan, but at times he seemed to be petty and the sparkle of his Nom-ness wore off a little, i think he forgot Merit is from another vampire house and therefore number one is always going to be loyalty to her House, i do see chemistry between them so i hope we see more of him.

What i miss in this book is others POV, i'd love to delve into Ethan's mind, or Catcher's, I would have liked to have seen the development between him and Mallory, in book one (Some Girls Bite)  it seemed Catcher said Hi Mallory said Hi and bam they were a couple all banging on the kitchen floor.

What you want from a second book in a series is that same magic that hooked you in to begin with, and 'Friday Night Bites' has that.
While it's not perfect, it has some parts that are repeated, i'm assuming for readers who didn't read 'Some Girls Bite' first (why the heck not, it's awesome!) that's just one of my pet peeves with books, but it didn't take away my enjoyment, these are really great likeable and sometimes maddening characters and i can't wait for book three Twice Bitten out in July (Squee

Morgan, Catcher or Ethan...what team are YOU on? you know you're on one ;) mine is...*drum roll*.......*pauses for dramatic effect*.......
TEAM ETHAN!!!! He isn't a typical hero, he's kind of an ass at times, but i am feelin' him! Being a fickle bitch i hold the right to change teams without any notice haha

I give Friday Night Bites by Chloe Neill 4 Sparkles out of 5
