Dive into a world torn apart by a powerful race with phenomenal powers of the mind—and none of the heart…
In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of “rehabilitation”— the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was….Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a Changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy co-existence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several Changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion—and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities—or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation…

A brand new series to me, im always apprehensive hoping i will like it, i've read the author just recently with her guild hunter series, i knew her writing style so hoped i would be as engaged in this world as i was her angels... but Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh was something new for me. I loved the book instantly. I've always loved reading about were animals/Shifters and Lucas a were panther was in a word fanfreakintastic. One of the best shifter books i've read in a long time, i love the pack mentality, how close they all are but then you add into the dynamics a whole psychic world and the book becomes something new altogether.
Lucas is all about feelings and emotions and touching. Sascha is a Psy. breed to feel nothing, to have no emotions. If a Psy "malfunctions" and begins to feel they're destroyed by the Psy council. Every thought they have monitored by the Psy network (imagine having someone in your head with you 24/7!) and when Sascha is around Lucas she begins to feel, to have emotions, to crave his touch.
One of the best kind of romances is two species, completely different, who on paper shouldn't be a match, but they fall in love anyway, that is Lucas and Sascha. I just loved them both. And it's rare for me to like many lead heroines.
I was hooked not just to the two main characters, but the secondary characters, the back stories, the world Singh weaved, i'd wrongly thought the book would be sci fi. Im so glad i gave it a chance because from Slave to Sensation you get a world you've never been in before, easily read, likeable characters, it's a real page turner, and then you get Lucas. Oh Lucas! he's going on my all time favourite shifters top ten list. If you love Alpha's he's the cat for you! There is some dream scenes that will make your eyeballs sweat! SWEAT! The connection and chemistry between Sascha and Lucas will leave you melted into a pile of goopy goo!
"Your scent is like a drug to my senses" His voice was so rough she could barely understand him
An all round wonderful read I give Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh 4.5 Sparkles out of 5 - A Purrrtastic read!
PS. Hawke. he's a character to look out for. He's a wolf, and very sexily intriguing. He makes Lucas's Jealous metre go off the scale every time he wants to kiss on his mate.
Go deeper into the world of the Psy and the changelings, where a gifted woman sees passion in her future-a passion that is absolutely forbidden by her kind...
Used to cold silence, Faith NightStar is suddenly being tormented by dark visions of blood and murder. A bad sign for anyone, but worse for Faith, an F-Psy with the highly sought after ability to predict the future. Then the visions show her something even more dangerous-aching need...exquisite pleasure. But so powerful is her sight, so fragile the state of her mind, that the very emotions she yearns to embrace could be the end of her. Changeling Vaughn D'Angelo can take either man or jaguar form, but it is his animal side that is overwhelmingly drawn to Faith. The jaguar's instinct is to claim this woman it finds so utterly fascinating and the man has no argument. But while Vaughn craves sensation and hungers to pleasure Faith in every way, desire is a danger that could snap the last threads of her sanity. And there are Psy who need Faith's sight for their own purposes. They must keep her silenced-and keep her from Vaughn...**Summary taken from Author Website**
Where Sascha was an E-Psy (empath) Faith the heroine of Vision of Heat by Nalini Singh is an F-Psy. She sees the future and has been using it in the business world, locked away in her own haven, shielded, she is suddenly getting bloodied visions of murder, like any Psy she knows if these extra signals are picked up by the Psy Net she will be dealt with. I think i felt more for Faith than i did for Sascha, Faith was a lot more closed off, she couldn't even stand the merest of touches, how then is she going to have the hip bumpage with the gorgeous hero you're think? you must read to find out! There were many times i felt sorry for Faith, especially to see her unfold from the Silence (it's the procedure all Psy go through to rid them of all feelings and emotions) she was drawn to Vaughn and didn't understand why. This is a wonderful second in series book, digging deeper into the Psy world, uncovering a murderer you begin to see a race made for peace isn't all that is seems.
Vaughn a deliciously enigmatic cool loner jaguar, fiercely loyal to his pack, I'm all about the Alpha in a story, and since Lucas is Alpha of the DarkRiver pack i wondered if i'd have that draw to Vaughn. Damn did i! he may not be leader of the pack, but he was all Alpha around his woman.
"Ask nicely and i might let you"
He'd read her mind for the second time. "You're telepathic?"
He nudged her towards the shower. "No, you just can't lie worth a damn. Everything's in your eyes. Plus i know when a woman's thinking about stroking me"
"I wasn't thinking about stroking you" She preceded him down the hallway. "I was imagining your fur"
Heat at her back and a rough whisper against her ear "You let me stroke you and i'll let you stroke me - i have a thing about your skin"
While i enjoyed this book as much as i did the first, i can't help think the plot was vaguely the same, but i like the characters so much that the plot didn't bother me so much, i love to see character building and evolving, i especially love to see characters from other books merge into the current story. This is a series i'm eager to see more of.
I give Vision of Heat by Nalini Singh 4.5 Sparkles out of 5 - A Grrrrlicious read!
PS. Seriously watch out for Hawke! I think i wants him! (He is book 13! THIRTEEN!! and not released until 2011! *le purry sigh* )
PPS. Don't you just LOVE the UK covers? RAWR!!!
